Meeting #2: Beyond Book Club Austin (BBCATX)
November 12, 2015 – November 15, 2015

Austin was the second book club meeting, in the home city of member James Dwyer. Of the group, 9 of the 11 members were able to attend. Alex Sussman and Nick Hughes were in absentia.

As the second ever meeting, the gathering in Austin sought to build upon the success of the first meeting 6 months prior. What better place to do so than a land of seemingly endless breakfast tacos, the great outdoors, and an embodiment of true frontier spirit. The group attended a backyard concert / Wiccan party (which, yes, is a thing, and a pretty awesome thing too). They had a wonderful and tasty private lunch, where in addition to discussing the themes, implications, and stories of the novels chosen, members put a serious dent into the world’s avocado population.

The AirBnB … left a little to be desired. But it didn’t really matter. The food, the nightlife, and the company were second to none. And Max has no problem sleeping wherever he needs to sleep. During the Austin trip, in addition to the variety of wonderful meals, the group toured the Austin Capitol building, James’ place of work. (The Austin Capitol building is the 6th largest state capitol building in the country, for all you state capitol building buffs out there).

At the conclusion of each day of intellectual adventuring, the group sampled the finest nightlife Austin had to offer, including live country and blues music, and most importantly, shuffleboard.
